Ponikarovsky signs with Kings

The Los Angeles Kings wasted little time replacing Alexander Frolov, as they agreed to terms on a one-year contract with left wing Alexei Ponikarovsky on Tuesday afternoon.

TSN is reporting the deal will pay Ponikarovsky $3 million.

Ponikarovsky, 30, is a four-time 20-goal scorer. The 6-foot-4, 229-pounder finished last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins after being dealt by the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Luca Caputi and Martin Skoula. Overall, he had 21 goals and 29 assists in 77 games.

A fourth-round pick by Toronto (No. 87) in 1998, Ponikarovsky had a goal and 4 assists in 11 playoff games for the Pens.

The Kings needed a replacement for Frolov, who signed with the New York Rangers earlier in the day.

Quote of the Day

I'm hoping Bob [Murray] didn't go out and get Dany Heatley just to get someone. I'm sure he's excited and motivated.
