Islanders sign Schremp to one-year contract
A surprise find for the Islanders last season after being claimed off waivers, Rob Schremp will be back after signing a new one-year contract.
Rob Schremp, a pleasant surprise for the New York Islanders last season after being claimed off waivers, agreed to a one-year contract with the team Thursday.

After coming over from the Edmonton Oilers in late September, the 24-year-old Schremp posted career highs with 7 goals and 25 points in 44 games.

"We were excited to pick up Rob at the start of last season when he was put on waivers, and he responded by putting together a strong rookie campaign," Islanders General Manger Garth Snow said. "We look forward to seeing him continue to improve and contribute at this level next season."

Schremp's season ended early after he suffered a knee injury on March 9 and missed the Islanders' final 16 games.

Taken with the 25th pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Schremp had played only 7 games for the Oilers, compiling 3 assists, before the Islanders picked him up.
