Sharks re-sign Leach
San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed Group III un-restricted free agent defenseman Jay Leach to a one-year, two-way contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Last season, Leach posted career-highs in games played (35), goals, points (one goal, one assist), penalty minutes (25) and plus/minus (+3). He scored his first career goal on March 11 vs. Nashville.

Claimed off waivers by San Jose from Montreal on Dec. 1, Leach appeared in seven games with the Canadiens, posting five penalty minutes.

In 63 NHL games with Boston, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Montreal and San Jose, Leach has three points (one goal, two assists) and 52 penalty minutes.

Quote of the Day

For our team, as a group, we've never been this far before, and so it's just more lessons learned, and sometimes you have to go to the school of hard knocks to find out what works and what doesn't. We've got a young group. They've played some unreal hockey here to get us this far, and we showed if we're not going to play the proper way, a really, really good hockey team is going to beat you, and that's what they did. It's a lesson learned.
