Koivu gets new two-year deal from Ducks
Anaheim has kept veteran center Saku Koivu in the fold, signing him to a new two-year contract.
Veteran center Saku Koivu is returning to the Anaheim Ducks, agreeing to a new two-year contract.

The 35-year-old Koivu recorded 19 goals and 52 points along with a career-high plus-14 rating in 71 games during his first season in Anaheim after playing his first 13 seasons with Montreal. It was the seventh consecutive season he eclipsed the 50-point mark. He led the Ducks in plus/minus and faceoff percentage (51.4 percent) and tied for 10th in the League with 6 game-winning goals.

Koivu scored his 200th career NHL goal on Jan. 5 vs. Detroit and appeared in his 800th career NHL game on Oct. 21 vs. Dallas. He also appeared in his fourth career Olympic Winter Games as a member of Team Finland in 2010 at Vancouver, winning the bronze medal. With Finnish teammates Jere Lehtinen and Ville Peltonen, he earned a share of the all-time Olympic men's hockey record for career medals with four (also silver in 2006 & bronze in 1994 and 1998).
 
A native of Turku, Finland, Koivu has career totals of 210 goals and 693 points in 863 NHL game. He served as the Canadiens' team captain for 10 years (1999-2009), tied with Jean Beliveau for the longest stint in Montreal's 100-year history. Koivu is a two-time All-Star, having been named to the 1998 and 2003 All-Star Games. He has also appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs on eight occasions, earning 16-32-48 points in 54 contests.
