Armstrong to Leafs
Toronto GM Brian Burke dipped his itchy trigger fingers into the free agency waters Thursday afternoon and fished out Colby Armstrong for three years at $3 million per. Armstrong had been with the Atlanta Thrashers since the 2008 trade deadline when Pittsburgh sent him there in the Marian Hossa trade.

Armstrong fits Burke's mold as a plucky, tough forward with offensive skills. The 27-year-old right wing has 178 points in 360 NHL games. He scored a career-high 22 goals in 2008-09 when he also matched his career high with 40 points. His numbers dipped to 15 goals and 29 points this past season.

Burke on Wednesday picked up Kris Versteeg in a trade with Chicago and now he has signed Armstrong to be a part of the Leafs core along with Versteeg, Phil Kessel, Dion Phaneuf and Tyler Bozak.
