Canadiens re-sign Pyatt, Pouliot
The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday they have re-signed forwards Tom Pyatt and Benoit Pouliot to one-year contracts.

Pouliot, 23, had a breakthrough season after being acquired from the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 23, 2009, recording 15 goals and 24 points in 39 games. His overall totals for the 2009-10 regular season were 17 goals and 28 points in 53 games. Pouliot added 2 assists in 18 playoff games for the Canadiens.

The Wild selected Pouliot with the No. 4 pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. In 104 career games, he has 24 goals and 42 points.

Pyatt, also 23, had 2 goals and 3 assists in 40 regular-season games while going minus-5 with 10 penalty minutes in his rookie season. He had 2 goals and 2 assists in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games this spring while going minus-1 with 2 penalty minutes. Pyatt had the game-winning goal in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native is the son of former NHL player Nelson Pyatt and the younger brother of Phoenix Coyotes forward Taylor Pyatt. The 5-foot-11, 187-pound winger was the New York Rangers' fourth-round pick, No. 107, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired on June 30, 2009 along with Scott Gomez and minor-league defenseman Michael Busto. The Habs traded Chris Higgins, Ryan McDonagh, Pavel Valentenko and Doug Janik to the Rangers.

Pyatt was a member of Team Canada's gold-medal squads at the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships, and was voted the 2007 winner of the Ontario Hockey League's William Hanley Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player.
