Coyotes' Doan awarded King Clancy Trophy
Phoenix Coyotes right wing Shane Doan is the recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded "to the player who best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community."

Doan’s longtime dedication to the Arizona community was ever more apparent in 2009-10. Throughout a turbulent off-season, Doan stood up for Phoenix, his home since 1996, as a great hockey market and a great place to live.

The sixth-year captain helped Dave Tippett make a seamless transition into the head coaching position just nine days before the start of the regular season. The Coyotes got off to a dream start, tying the franchise record for most victories in October (9-4-0).

Doan's leadership kept the Coyotes together as they reached new heights on the ice, shattering the franchise records for most wins (50) and points (107) in a single season and breaking an eight-year playoff drought.

Away from the rink, Doan served as a mentor to younger teammates and continued to make time for those less fortunate, making visits to sick children at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He also invited a group of students and teachers from Children First Academy in both Tempe and Phoenix to a game and spent time with them all afterward.

Aside from simply making appearances, Doan is well-known in Phoenix for his ability to put a smile on fans’ faces and engage them in conversations about nearly anything. During the Coyotes Carnival in March, during which Doan playfully interacted with each and every fan who stood in line awaiting the chance to participate in carnival games with him, he spontaneously decided to donate more time after the Carnival by auctioning off a personal tour of the Coyotes dressing room to benefit Coyotes Charities.
