PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk will replace Daniel Carcillo in the lineup against the Chicago Blackhawks for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Friday at Wachovia Center.
The Flyers and Blackhawks will face off in Game 4 of the championship round Friday at 8 p.m. ET (VERSUS, CBC, RDS).
Flyers coach Peter Laviolette replaced van Riemsdyk with Carcillo for Game 2 in Chicago and Game 3 in Philadelphia. It marked the first two games the rookie forward missed in the playoffs this spring after notching 2 goals, 4 points and a minus-3 rating in 18 previous games. Van Riemsdyk liked the sense of desperation that club played with in Game 3 to pull within 2-1 of this series.
"We just played with a little more urgency out there and picked up our skating game and that was really noticeable," he said. "We were just really trying to make plays and we were moving our feet."
Carcillo, who wasn't seen during Friday's pre-game warmups, was benched in the third period and the overtime Wednesday in Game 3 and finished with 7:39 of ice time on 12 shifts for the game. The Flyers' agitator, who was playing on a line with center Claude Giroux and Arron Asham, has 2 goals, 6 points, a plus-one rating and a team-leading 34 penalty minute in 17 postseason games.
Following practice on Friday morning at Wachovia Center, van Riemsdyk said he'd look forward to playing his second career game in a Cup Final if given the opportunity.
"If you do get that chance to get in there though, you have to make the most of it and it's going to be an exciting game and going to be another one of those games where it's a must win for us," van Riemsdyk said. "It'll be the biggest one of the season and we're going to have to come out flying."
In his only appearance in a Cup Final game in Game 1 of this series, van Riemsdyk logged 9:25 of ice time on 16 shifts and finished with a minus-2 rating in a 6-5 Flyers' loss at United Center in Chicago. He'd likely assume his normal duty along the third line with Giroux and Asham.
