Bruins try to avoid making history by winning Game 7
The Boston Bruins will have to end a three-game losing streak in Game 7s to make the Eastern Conference Finals.
PHILADELPHIA -- The last time the Boston Bruins celebrated a victory in Game 7 of a Stanley Cup Playoff series, Adam Oates was the team's leading point-producer and Ray Bourque was manning the blue line.

That was in the 1994 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, when the Bruins eliminated the Montreal Canadiens with a 5-3 victory in Game 7 in Boston.

Since then, the Bruins have lost three straight Game 7s. The Carolina Hurricanes won 3-2 in overtime at TD Garden in the conference Semifinals last year. The Canadiens earned a 5-0 victory in the 2008 conference quarterfinals and a 2-0 win in the same round four years earlier.

The Bruins couldn't have expected to have to go to a Game 7 after winning the first three games of their series against the Flyers. But following Wednesday's series-tying 2-1 loss at Philadelphia, the Bruins will have to end their Game 7 drought and beat the Flyers at TD Garden to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Flyers will be trying to become the third team in NHL history to win a series after trailing 3-0 by winning their first Game 7 since a 3-2 overtime decision over the Washington Capitals in the '08 conference quarterfinal.

No team has rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win a best-of-7 series since the 1975 New York Islanders did it against Pittsburgh in the 1975 quarterfinals. The only other team to do it was the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, which won the Stanley Cup Final after losing the first three games to Detroit. The '75 Islanders were also the last team to get as far as a Game 7 after losing the first three games in a series -- they did it in the semifinals against the Flyers.

"Everyone understands the difficult challenge that (rallying from) an 0-3 series presents," Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. "That's part of the story you write through the course of the playoffs. Our guys are well aware of it, but, we also know not many teams have an opportunity at something like this. Any time you can put your name to a positive mark in history like that, it would be a good thing."

Quote of the Day

I came into a team that had 65 points, that was at the bottom of the basement, a team that everybody wrote off as never going to be good. My goal is to go from the very bottom to the very top.

— Forward Brandon Dubinsky on signing a six-year contract extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets
