Vipers beat Braves 2-0, Kings rout Ice Wolves 6-2 in RBC Cup semifinal

DAUPHIN, Man. - Steven Shamanski had two goals and an assist as the Dauphin Kings became the first RBC Cup hosts to make the final since 2007 with a 6-2 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Saturday.

It was Dauphin's sixth straight victory against the Ice Wolves, including a 3-2 round-robin win on Tuesday.

Bryce Lamb opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game, converting a pass from Shamanski to give the Kings the lead. Angus Klassen and Shamanski scored in the second period to make it 3-0 before Aaron Enns and Ben Findlay replied for La Ronge.

Zeanan Ziemer and Mitch Czibere scored third-period goals and Shamanski added an empty-netter to ensure a berth in the final for the hosts, who will face off against the defending champion Vernon Vipers at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Joe Caligiuri made 33 saves for Dauphin, while Ice Wolves netminder Joel Danyluk stopped 34 shots.

In the early semifinal, Connor Jones broke a scoreless tie in the third period to send Vernon to its second straight RBC Cup final with a 2-0 win over the Brockville Braves.

Jones, who missed the round robin with an undisclosed injury, took a pass from his brother Kellen before deking around a Brockville defenceman and sliding the puck between the legs of goaltender Justin Gilbert.

Kellen Jones added an insurance marker six minutes later when Connor set him up for a one-timer on a 2-on-1 rush for the Vipers, who will try to become the first team to capture back-to-back National Junior A Championships since Vernon, known then as the Lakers, did it in 1990 and 1991.

The Braves were outshot in every period, but the game was scoreless after 40 minutes thanks to the play of Gilbert, who was named the tournament's top goaltender on Friday.

Graeme Gordon made 20 saves in the Vipers net, while Gilbert stopped 33 shots.
