Phoenix captain Shane Doan scratched for Game 7
The Phoenix Coyotes are going to have to win Game 7 against Detroit without their captain.

Shane Doan was a scratch for Tuesday night's decisive game in the Western Conference Quarterfinal series between the Coyotes and the Red Wings. He hasn't played since going out with an upper-body injury in the Coyotes' Game 3 win at Detroit on April 18.

There had been hope that Doan might play -- he had practiced for the last few days, though he didn't skate Tuesday morning.

"I noticed a big change (Monday)," coach Dave Tippett said. "He was able to practice and compete and do some one-on-one stuff. We'll see. It's going in the right direction."

However, it didn't get there fast enough. Doan did not take part in the pre-game warmups.

Phoenix dropped Games 4 and 5 without Doan in the lineup, but bounced back in impressive fashion with a 5-2 win at Detroit in Game 6 to push the series to the limit.

Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
