Heatley out for Game 3 with undisclosed injury

A series that hasn’t gone quite as planned for the San Jose Sharks took another unexpected turn Sunday night when top forward Dany Heatley was scratched from Game 3 against the Colorado Avalanche due to an undisclosed injury.

Heatley, part of the Sharks’ top line with Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, had one assist and was minus-2 in the first two games of the series. San Jose lost the opener 2-1 and was less than a minute from falling in an 0-2 hole to eighth-seeded Colorado before rallying to win Game 2 in overtime, 6-5.

Manny Malhotra took Heatley's place alongside Thornton and Marleau.

Also, Avalanche right wing Milan Hejduk suffered what the team said is an upper-body injury at 2:06 of the first period when he collided with teammate Paul Stastny while the two were skating across the Sharks' blue line on a power play.

Colorado officials said Hejduk's return was "doubtful."
Quote of the Day

I loved being in the jerseys again and they worked some magic for us. It was weird in warm-ups, seeing No. 22 in that jersey and thinking he’s [Mike Gartner], and No. 8 reminds you of Danny Briere … every number had me thinking back to the guys who wore them and smiling.
