EASTERN CONFERENCE

The Washington Capitals have clinched the #1 seed.

The New Jersey Devils will clinch the #2 seed if they get at least one point against the Buffalo Sabres, which would give the Sabres the #3 seed. The Sabres will finish #2 if they win at New Jersey in regulation time. That would drop the Devils to #3.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have clinched the #4 seed.

The Ottawa Senators have clinched the #5 seed.

The Boston Bruins have clinched the #6 seed.

The winner of the Philadelphia Flyers-New York Rangers game goes to the playoffs, the loser is eliminated. If the Flyers win, they clinch the #7 seed, the Montreal Canadiens are the #8 seed and the Rangers are eliminated. If the Rangers win, the Canadiens clinch the #7 seed, the Rangers are #8 and the Flyers are eliminated.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

The Chicago Blackhawks will clinch the #1 seed if they defeat the Detroit Red Wings. Otherwise, the San Jose Sharks will claim the #1 seed and the Blackhawks will earn the #2 seed.

The Vancouver Canucks have clinched the #3 seed.

The Phoenix Coyotes have clinched the #4 seed.

The Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings and Nashville Predators will vie for the #5, #6 and #7 seeds today. Two games on the schedule (Detroit at Chicago, Los Angeles at Colorado) will determine the final order (Nashville is idle). Following is a summary of how all possible outcomes of those games would determine seeds 5 through 7:
