#1 Washington Capitals would clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference...

* if they defeat the Carolina Hurricanes AND the New Jersey Devils lose (in regulation or overtime/shootout) to the New York Rangers

#2 Pittsburgh Penguins (idle) would clinch a playoff berth...

 * if the Atlanta Thrashers lose in regulation to the Toronto Maple Leafs

#4 New Jersey Devils would clinch a playoff berth...

* if they defeat the New York Rangers AND the Atlanta Thrashers lose (in regulation or overtime/shootout) to the Toronto Maple Leafs
   OR
* if they get one point vs. the New York Rangers AND the Atlanta Thrashers lose in regulation to the Toronto Maple Leafs


WESTERN CONFERENCE

#1 Chicago Blackhawks would clinch a playoff berth...

* if they defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets
   OR
* if they get one point vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets AND the Calgary Flames lose (in regulation or overtime/shootout) to the New York Islanders
