Florida Panthers general manager Randy Sexton announced today that the club has acquired D Mathieu Roy from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for C Matt Rust (University of Michigan – CCHA).
Roy, 26, has played in 31 games for Columbus this season registering 10 assists and 17 PIM. He also has appeared in 14 games for Syracuse (AHL) registering four assists and 32 PIM. For his career in the National Hockey League he has played in 61 games for Edmonton (2005-08) and Columbus (2009-10) scoring two with 11 assists and 74 PIM.
The St. Martin de Beuace, Quebec, native was originally drafted by Edmonton with their seventh choice (215th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
