Rangers add Newbury
The New York Rangers added depth at center by acquiring minor-leaguer Kris Newbury from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for AHL left wing Jordan Owens.

Newbury, 28, had 1 goal in four games with the Red Wings this season. In 52 games with the Wings' AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, he has 11 goals, 33 points and a team-leading 144 penalty minutes.

A 2002 fifth-round pick of the San Jose Sharks, he has 7 points and 64 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Red Wings.

Owens, 23, is an undrafted free agent in his third pro season. In 50 games with the Rangers' AHL team, the Hartford Wolf Pack, he has 6 goals and 19 points.
Quote of the Day

It's something that you don't really envision starting this way, but when you put the work in you don't feel like it's unwarranted. You definitely don't envision it unfolding this way, but you do think you can be successful at this level.

— Senators goalie Andrew Hammond, who defeated the Jets on Wednesday to improve to 6-0-1 since making his first NHL start on Feb. 18
