SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos scored three goals 2:54 apart in the second period of a 5-2 win over the Regina Pats Tuesday night in Western Hockey League action.
The loss mathematically eliminates the Pats from the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. Regina had played most of the final four minutes with their net empty in an attempt to fight their way back into the game.
Cody Eakin scored his 44th and 45th goals of the season, including an empty net goal with 19 seconds left in regulation as the Broncos (34-29-4) earned their third straight home ice victory.
Travis Bobbee and Taylor Vause scored power play goals 1:06 apart in the second period, scoring on both ends of a five-on-three power play.
Justin Dowling opened the scoring after a scoreless first period with his 28th of the season.
Regina (27-33-7) scored both its goals on the power play. Jordan Eberle scored his 46th goal of the season and had one assist to lead the league with 97 points. Pats forward Matt Strueby collected his 35th goal of the season.
Swift Current netminder Morgan Clark made 36 saves, while Regina rookie goaltender Dawson Guhle gave up four goals on 32 shots.
