Wings-Ducks highlights Wednesday's schedule

It's always must-see TV when the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks meet, and such will be the case when the teams go head-to-head as part of the NHL's five-game schedule on Wednesday night.

The Wings and Ducks played a memorable seven-game series last May, which Detroit won en route to its second straight trip to the Stanley Cup Final. Anaheim will have a new look when it faces the Wings at 10 p.m. ET at the Honda Center (NHL Network in the U.S.), as the Ducks acquired forward Jason Blake and goaltender Vesa Toskala from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Jean-Sebastien Giguere. The Ducks are coming off a six-game trip that ended with a 3-0 win at Florida on Monday, while the Red Wings rallied for a 4-2 win at San Jose on Tuesday night.

Wednesday's action begins at 7 p.m. ET, when the Ottawa Senators look for their 10th consecutive win as they battle the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena. The Sens' nine straight wins are a franchise record, and they've moved within five points of the first-place Sabres in the Northeast Division. The game can be seen on RDS in Canada.

Ninety minutes later, the Chicago Blackhawks return to United Center after an eight-game road trip when they host the St. Louis Blues. Chicago is 21-5-1 at home and has built a double-digit lead in the Central Division. St. Louis (24-22-9) has earned points in seven of its last 10 games.

The new-look Calgary Flames, who dropped a 3-0 decision on home ice against Philadelphia on Monday, are back in action against the Carolina Hurricanes at 9 p.m. ET at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Calgary will have two more new faces in the lineup as the team acquired Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins from the New York Rangers after Monday's loss in exchange for Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust. The deal came one day after Calgary sent Dion Phaneuf, Fredrik Sjostrom and Keith Aulie to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers and Ian White.

At 9:30 p.m. ET, the Edmonton Oilers will look to make it two wins in a row as they host the Philadelphia Flyers at Rexall Place. Edmonton ended more than a month of futility on Monday night when it broke a 13-game losing streak with a 4-2 win against Carolina. The game can be seen on TSN in Canada.
