NEW YORK - Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan was named the NHL's first star of the week Monday after leading all scorers with nine points.

Ottawa Senators goalie Brian Elliott was named second star and Washington Capitals centre Nicklas Backstrom was the third star.

Doan had three goals and six assists in the week ending Jan. 31 as the Coyotes won four straight games.

Elliott posted a 3-0-0 record, 0.98 goals-against average and .964 save percentage. He also had a shutout as the Senators extended their win streak to a franchise-record nine games.

Backstrom had two goals and five assists as the Capitals tied a franchise record by winning their 10th consecutive game.

Quote of the Day

With this being the last year [at the Coliseum], we'd love to try to get back to the dance like we did against Pittsburgh and prove ourselves and go even further. It's an important year.

— New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano
