Martin Brodeur is 60 minutes away from making NHL history. The future Hall of Famer will make his second bid for an NHL-record 104th regular-season shutout when the New Jersey Devils host the Florida Panthers at the Prudential Center on Friday night (7 p.m. ET).

Brodeur tied Terry Sawchuk's NHL record on Monday with his 103rd shutout, a 3-0 victory over the Sabres in Buffalo. The Devils gave him a 3-0 lead early in the second period on Wednesday night against Carolina, but the Hurricanes scored twice in less than two minutes later in the period, and Brodeur had to settle for a 4-2 victory.

Brodeur has five career shutouts in 52 appearances against Florida, which is coming off a 3-0 loss at Columbus. He'll be facing his former backup, Scott Clemmensen, who took over when Brodeur was injured last season but was sent to the minors upon his return.

The Panthers-Devils game is one of eight on the NHL schedule for Friday.

Also at 7 p.m., the Washington Capitals will try to rebound from a 3-0 loss at Buffalo on Wednesday when they host Carolina in a meeting of Southeast Division rivals. The Hurricanes have just one road win this season.

At 7:30 p.m. ET, the Chicago Blackhawks pay their first visit to HSBC Arena in two years when they play the Buffalo Sabres. Chicago comes off a 2-1 overtime win at home against the New York Rangers on Wednesday, while the Sabres ended a two-game slide by blanking the Caps.

Also at 7:30, Anaheim begins a road trip with a visit to Detroit, where the Wings have had trouble scoring. The Ducks rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Dallas 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday, while the Wings lost 1-0 at home to St. Louis on Wednesday -- the third time they've been blanked at home since Nov. 25.

At 8 p.m. ET, the Edmonton Oilers take their four-game road winning streak to the Scottrade Center for a meeting with the St. Louis Blues. The Oilers are making the last stop on a six-game trip that has seen them go 4-1-0, while the Blues have struggled at home.

Two games face off at 9 p.m. ET.

Tampa Bay starts a six-game trip with a visit to Colorado. The Lightning come off a disappointing 3-2 home loss to Edmonton on Wednesday, a couple of hours before the Avs lost 1-0 at home to Minnesota.

The Wild continue their road trip in Calgary for their first meeting of the season with the Flames. Calgary leads the Northwest Division by a point over Colorado after its 3-1 win over Atlanta on Wednesday.

The final game of the night gets under way at 10:30 p.m. ET, when the Dallas Stars visit San Jose. The Stars have had two days to get over blowing a 3-0 lead in their 4-3 OT loss at Anaheim, while the Sharks have dropped three in a row at home, including a 5-4 overtime loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday.
