The Regina Pats own one of the most potent power plays in the Western Hockey League.

Wednesday night, they met their match.

Shane McColgan scored three of Kelowna's six man-advantage goals as the Rockets earned a wild 9-5 win over the Pats.

McColgan added a pair of assists to complete a five-point night for Kelowna (17-15-1), which won its second straight game. Geordie Wudrick had two goals and two assists, Brandon McMillan added a pair of goals and Tyson Barrie chipped in with four assists in the Rockets' highest-scoring game of the season.

Cody Chikie had a goal and two assists in the win, while Max Adolph contributed a goal and a helper.

Regina (16-15-3) had a hat trick from Matt Strueby, marking the second time in less than a week a Pats player has had a three-goal night in a losing effort. Dominick Favreau and Tomas Hricina had the other Pats goals.

Regina forwards Jordan Weal and Jordan Eberle continued their recent hot play with a pair of assists apiece. Weal now has 21 points in his last 11 games while Eberle has 24 in his last nine.

Coming into the game, Regina held the second best power-play in both the WHL and the Canadian Hockey League - but it was Kelowna that went 6-for-8 with the man advantage Wednesday, while the Pats went just 2-for-6. Kelowna also had a short-handed goal from Adolph after a deft feed from Barrie.

In other WHL action Wednesday, it was: Prince Albert 5 Moose Jaw 1; Brandon 5 Saskatoon 4 (OT); Kootenay 5 Edmonton 2; Medicine Hat 2 Red Deer 1 (SO); Vancouver 5 Chilliwack 0; and Tri-City 4 Prince George 1.

At Regina, Rockets captain McMillan, who will be back in Regina on Saturday for the Canadian junior selection camp, bookended the scoring with a power-play goal midway through the first and an even strength effort late in the third.

In between, the Pats managed to make it interesting after finding themselves down 6-0 before the game was half over.

Heading into the third it was 7-3 Kelowna after two second-period goals by Strueby and one from Hricina.

By the midway point of the final period it was a 7-5 game after Strueby struck with his second power-play goal of the night to complete his hat trick and Favreau added another for the Pats.

But more Pats penalty trouble lead to McColgan's hat trick with a power-play goal that, along with McMillan's goal, put the game out of reach for Regina.

Earning the win for the Rockets was Adam Brown, who has been in net for every Kelowna win this season. Taking the loss for Regina was Damien Ketlo, who let in five goals on 18 shots before backup Dawson Guhle was sent in.
