The Philadelphia Flyers announced Tuesday that goaltender Ray Emery will undergo surgery to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdomen Wednesday and is expected to miss six weeks.

Dr. William Meyers, from Hahnemann University Hospital will be performing the surgery.

Emery, 27, has an 11-8-1 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and .901 save percentage, including one shutout, in 21 appearances with the Flyers this season.

Johan Backlund has been called up from the AHL's Adirondack Phantoms. Brian Boucher will start in goal Tuesday night, when the Flyers host the New York Islanders.

Quote of the Day

I think everybody wanted the puck tonight. Everybody wanted to be part of the solution and it reflected on the way we played. It's tiring when you have to chase the puck but tonight was one of those nights where everyone really wanted to make a play and wanted to have an impact on the game.
