Flyers' Emery to have surgery; placed on IR

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Tuesday that goaltender Ray Emery will undergo surgery to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdomen Wednesday and is expected to miss six weeks.

Dr. William Meyers, from Hahnemann University Hospital will be performing the surgery.

Emery, 27, has an 11-8-1 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and .901 save percentage, including one shutout, in 21 appearances with the Flyers this season.

Johan Backlund has been called up from the AHL's Adirondack Phantoms. Brian Boucher will start in goal Tuesday night, when the Flyers host the New York Islanders.
