Colorado Avalanche forward David Jones is expected to miss the next 4-6 months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild, the latest blow to a team that has dropped five of six after a surprising start.

Jones was hurt late in the third period when he collided with Minnesota forward Chuck Kobasew, who fell on his leg.

Colorado was already playing without forwards Milan Hejduk and T.J. Galiardi.

"I think that when you have those injuries, it's an opportunity for other players," Avs coach Joe Sacco said. "It gives them a chance to be put in different situations and see how they respond."

Quote of the Day

It's pretty crazy, but believe me when I say we didn't draft these players with the mindset we had to because they had good hockey-playing dads. It just turned out that way. But we're certainly glad they're a part of our organization.
