James Reid has had quite a November

The Chief's netminder made 41 saves as Spokane beat the Tri-City Americans 4-1 in Western Hockey League action Friday. Reid is 9-0-1 in this month as the Chiefs have won nine of 12 games. The Americans (19-7-0) lost for the just the second time on home ice this year, and saw their lead in the U.S. Division standings shrink to four points over second-place Portland, a 6-4 winner over Seattle.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Prince Albert 3 Calgary 2 (OT); Saskatoon 3 Lethbridge 2 (SO); Brandon 4 Swift Current 2; Kelowna 2 Chilliwack 1; Red Deer 4 Moose Jaw 1; Kootenay 6 Kamloops 5 (SO); Vancouver 5 Prince George 4; and Regina 4 Everett 2.

At Kennewick, Wash., the Chiefs (15-8-2) evened the 12-game season series between the clubs at two games apiece.

Tyler Johnson scored a short-handed goal just 3:09 into the game. Spokane took a 2-0 lead at 10:18 as Jared Cowen chipped the puck past Tri-City goalie Drew Owsley, and the lead grew to 3-0 at 15:08 with a goal by Brenden Kichton.

In the second period, Mitch Wahl gave the Chiefs a 4-0 lead, taking a nice pass across the crease from Blake Gal and putting the puck in an open net behind Owsley, who finished with 43 saves.

The Americans came out firing in the third, outshooting the Chiefs 20-5, and avoided the shutout when Brendan Shinnimin scored a power-play goal at 13:57.

Winterhawks 6 Thunderbirds 4

At Kent, Wash., Nino Niederreiter scored two goals and had two assists to help Portland to a comeback win over Seattle.

Taylor Aronson had his first two goals of the season for Portland (17-12-0), which overcame a 4-1 deficit.

After Niederreiter opened the scoring for Portland with an even-strength goal at 7:01 of the first period, Seattle scored three straight to lead 3-1 after the first period.

Prab Rai, Sena Acolatse and Charles Wells had the goals for Seattle (10-15-4).

Raiders 3 Hitmen 2

At Prince Albert, Sask., Ryan Harrison scored 50 seconds into overtime to give the Raiders a win over Calgary.

Brandon Herrod and Craig McCallum scored in regulation for Prince Albert (14-12-3).

Mackenzie Royer scored for the Hitmen (19-8-1) in the first period and Joel Broda tied the game with seven seconds left in regulation.

Blades 3 Hurricanes 2 (SO)

At Saskatoon, Derek Hulak scored in the fifth round of the shootout to lift the Blades over Lethbridge.

Hulak also assisted on Walker Wintoneak's tying goal late in the third period for Saskatoon (20-3-3). Jeremy Boyer had the other goal.

Carter Ashton and Craig Orfino scored for the Hurricanes (8-14-4).

Wheat Kings 4 Broncos 2

At Brandon, Man., Brodie Melnychuk and Mike Ferland scored goals 28 seconds apart in the second period to help the Wheat Kings beat Swift Current.

The goals by Melnychuk and Ferland put the Wheat Kings ahead 3-2 after the Broncos had taken a 2-0 first-period lead.

Jay Fehr and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 17-10-2 with their season-high fourth victory in a row. Aaron Lewadniuk and Scott Glennie each dished out three assists for Brandon.

Michael Stickland and Brad Hoban scored for the Broncos, who fell to 13-12-2.

Rockets 2 Bruins 1

At Chilliwack, B.C., Shane McColgan's second of the night early in the third period was the difference as Kelowna downed the Bruins.

Brandon McMillan picked up two assists for the Rockets.

After a scoreless first, Dylen McKinlay opened the scoring for the Bruins (11-13-5) in the second.

Adam Brown made 32 saves for Kelowna (13-13-1) to pick up the win, while Mark Freisen stopped 27 shots in defeat.

Rebels 4 Moose Jaw 1

At Red Deer, Atla., Andrej Kudrna scored the winning goal and set up two others as the Rebels (13-13-0) downed Moose Jaw (15-10-2).

Blazers 6 Ice 5 (SO)

At Kamloops, B.C., Jesse Ismond's scored the shootout winner for Kootenay as the Ice (12-13-2) beat the Blazers (11-13-4).

The Ice overcame a 4-0 deficit with five third-period goals, only to have the Blazers' Tyler Shattock force overtime at 19:48.

Giants 5 Cougars 4

At Prince George, B.C., Craig Cunningham scored the game-winner with 32 seconds left in the third as Vancouver stormed back to beat the Cougars.

Down 3-2 heading into the final period, Kevin Connauton scored six seconds in on the power play to tie the game.

After Brett Connolly helped Prince George retake the lead, Connauton's second of the night at 9:25 of the third knotted the game 4-4.

Mike Piluso and Garry Nunn also scored for Vancouver (17-8-3), while Cunningham added two assists.

Taylor Makin, Spencer Asuchak and Kurt Torbohm had the other goals for Prince George (4-19-2).

Pats 4 Silvertips 2

At Everett, Wash., Jordan Eberle scored a hat trick, leading the Regina over the Silvertips.

Cody Carlson also scored for Regina (15-12-3), which was deadly on the power play, converting on three of its five opportunities.

Damien Ketlo made 34 saves in goal for the Pats, including a stunning stick save on Kellan Tochkin late in the game with Regina leading by one.

Shane Harper and Chris Langkow scored for Everett (15-8-1), which was 0-for-8 on the power play. Thomas Heemskerk made 36 saves in goal for the Silvertips.
