The Moncton Wildcats didn't generate much of anything in the first period of their game Thursday night against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

They made up for it over the final 40 minutes. Ted Stephens scored twice and added an assist as the Wildcats overcame a sluggish first period in a 5-1 victory over the Voltigeurs in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Moncton (14-8-3) struggled in the first period, falling behind 1-0 through 20 minutes while trailing 10-5 in shots. Stephens tied the score with an unassisted goal at 1:16 of the second period, and put the Wildcats ahead for good with his eighth of the season on a power play at 15:56.

Thursday's other QMJHL game saw Quebec beat Cape Breton 2-1.

At Moncton, N.B., Marek Hrivik, Andrew Roski and Matt Brown added goals for the Wildcats, while Shane Owen made 28 saves in his first start since leaving the OHL's Erie Otters and joining Moncton as a free agent earlier this week.

Philippe Bergeron scored the lone goal for the Voltigeurs (20-5-2), while Antoine Tardif stopped 23 shots in defeat.

Marc-Olivier Vallerand and Jonathan Audy-Marchessault had goals for the Remparts (18-5-5).

Luke Adam provided the lone offence for Cape Breton (15-9-5).
