NEW YORK - San Jose Sharks centre Joe Thornton was named first star of the week Monday after leading all scorers with eight points last week.

Thornton had two goals, six assists and a plus-3 rating in three games.

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price was named second star and Ottawa Senators centre Mike Fisher took the third star.

Price posted a 2-0-1 record with a 1.89 goals-against average and .940 save percentage last week.

Fisher recorded six points (2-4) and a plus-5 rating to help the Senators win three consecutive games.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
