The
Edmonton Oilers said goaltender
Nikolai Khabibulin will sit out Saturday's game against Chicago and have signed junior goaltender
Torrie Jung to an Amateur Tryout to serve as
Jeff Deslauriers' backup against the Blackhawks.
The Oilers said Khabibulin will miss the game as a precaution as he continues to deal with a bad back. The 36-year-old is 7-9-2 in 18 starts with a 3.03 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He last played in Monday's 3-2 shootout loss at Columbus; Deslauriers played in Wednesday's 6-4 home win over Colorado.
Jung, 20, is in his second season with the Western Hockey League’s Edmonton Oil Kings after two seasons with the Kelowna Rockets. He has appeared in 20 games with the Oil Kings in 2009-10, posting a 5-11-3 record, a 3.29 GAA and a .903 save percentage.
Jung was originally selected by the
Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round (No. 183) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
