The
Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a blow to their blue line on Monday night when it was announced that defenseman
Kris Letang will be sidelined for two weeks after suffering a shoulder contusion against the
San Jose Sharks last Saturday.
Letang left the game midway through the first period and did not return in the 5-0 loss. He met with team doctors in Pittsburgh on Monday.
The 22-year-old defenseman has seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in 17 games this season and averages more than 21 minutes per game.
The defending Stanley Cup champs have been hit hard by the injury bug this season. Pittsburgh is also missing
Sergei Gonchar (broken left wrist),
Evgeni Malkin (shoulder strain),
Maxime Talbot (shoulder) and
Tyler Kennedy (undisclosed).
Pittsburgh will visit the
Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
