BOSTON -- Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Thursday that the club's medical staff has confirmed Bruins center David Krejci has been diagnosed with the H1N1 flu virus.

Based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations, Krejci will be isolated from the rest of the team until he is symptom- and fever-free for 24 hours.

Krejci played with the Bruins on Tuesday night against the Red Wings and recorded 18:07 of ice time. Boston coach Claude Julien reported Krejci began feeling ill following the game and flew back with the team to Boston that night.

"Nobody knows how long those things will stay with you, so he needs to be quarantined until he is symptom-free," said Julien. "We have installed a bunch of hand sanitizers in both our practice facility and here (TD Garden). There are at least a half a dozen or more throughout the dressing room. So it is up to us to take the precautions, and if we see symptoms it's important to let the trainers know right away."

Right wing Mikko Lehtonen was recalled form AHL Providence on an emergency basis for Wednesday's game against Montreal. Lehtonen has 3 goals, 7 assists and 25 penalty minutes in 11 games for the P-Bruins this season.

Despite the circumstances, Lehtonen, who made his NHL debut late last season, was excited to get the call.

"I feel good -- excited, of course," said Lehtonen. "I hope it's going to be a good game for us."

Julien also hopes the addition of Lehtonen will spark the lackluster Bruins offense.

"He was the best player available," said Julien. "Hopefully he is one of those guys. He has a big body, skates well, has skill, and maybe he can help us produce a little up front."

Bruins left wing Steve Begin tried to lighten the mood with reporters. Before taking on a serious note, when asked about Krejci, he playfully asked, "What's wrong with David?"  

"We have to make sure we do all the little things to make sure we don't get sick. That's all we can do," Begin told NHL.com. "We have a game (Wednesday) so we have to make sure everyone is ready. He (Krejci) is being taken care of."

A number of other players around the League have tested positive for the H1N1 type of the flu, among them Capitals forward Quintin Laing, Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj, Islanders captain Doug Weight and Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid.
