One of the greatest rivalries in all of sports will be renewed at 7 p.m. ET, as the
New York Islanders host the
New York Rangers at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Isles have just one win this season (1-4-5), yet are only four points out of a playoff spot. Six of their first 10 games have gone past regulation. The Blueshirts, meanwhile, are off to an 8-3-1 start. They beat the
Phoenix Coyotes 5-2 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night and have won their last five visits to the Coliseum.
Three other games begin at 7 p.m.; The
New Jersey Devils (6-3-0) host the first-place
Buffalo Sabres (6-1-1) at Prudential Center, while the
St. Louis Blues visit the
Carolina Hurricanes. The
Columbus Blue Jackets will take on the Coyotes at Nationwide Arena.
Two more contests have a 7:30 p.m. faceoff. The
Pittsburgh Penguins, who are atop the Eastern Conference with a 9-2-0 record, host the
Montreal Canadiens at Mellon Arena (TSN2 in Canada). The Habs have won four in a row. Also, the
Ottawa Senators look to continue their impressive start (5-2-2) against the
Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center (RDS in Canada). Florida has been outscored 35-19 while going 2-6-1 in its first nine games.
The
Toronto Maple Leafs look for win No. 2 on the season at 8 p.m. ET, when they'll visit the
Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Toronto picked up its first victory on Monday night at Anaheim behind five power-play goals. The game can be seen in Canada on TSN. At the same time, the
Nashville Predators take on the
Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild haven't won on the road -- but haven't lost at home.
A Northwest Division rivalry resumes at 9:30 p.m. ET, as the
Calgary Flames host the
Colorado Avalanche at Pengrowth Saddledome. The Flames are 7-2-1, thanks in part to
Rene Bourque's (14 points) hot start. Colorado is going for a sweep of its two-game swing through Alberta after blanking the Oilers 3-0 in Edmonton on Tuesday behind
Craig Anderson, who's led the Avs to a 9-1-2 start.
The top two teams in the Pacific Division face off at 10:30 p.m. when the
Los Angeles Kings (8-4-0) visit the
San Jose Sharks (7-4-1) at HP Pavilion. That showdown can be seen on the NHL Network in the U.S. The Kings have won three in a row, while San Jose comes home after a 4-2-0 road trip that included weekend wins at Atlanta and Philadelphia.
