NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -New Jersey defenseman Paul Martin and left wing Jay Pandolfo will be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks after being injured in the Devils' game against the Pittsburgh Penguins this past weekend.

The Devils said Monday that Martin, possibly their top defenseman, has broken left arm that will not require surgery. Pandolfo has a shoulder injury. The team would not say what specifically is wrong.

The team recalled defenseman Cory Murphy from Lowell of the AHL.

Martin leads the Devils in ice time, while Pandolfo is one of the top defensive forwards and a key penalty killer.

Devils forward Patrik Elias, who has not played this season because of groin surgery in mid September, is close to returning to practice.

Quote of the Day

You can be hyped all you want, but his game will speak for itself. He's obviously going to be a great player so we've got to make sure we keep an eye on him. Whether it's his first game or his 1,000th game, our job is to take care of business, shut him down.
