NHL Network nominated for Gemini Award

The NHL Network has been nominated for a 2009 Gemini Award in the Best Sports Analysis or Commentary Program, Series or Segment category for "Brodeur: A Winner Above All," a two-hour documentary about the career and life of Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur.

The Gemini Awards honor the best in Canadian television as determined by members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and other industry professionals. They are the Canadian equivalent of the Emmy Awards in the United States.

"Brodeur: A Winner Above All," takes a look at future Hall-of-Famer's entire career, from his days of playing youth hockey to his three Stanley Cups to his setting of the NHL record for most wins by a goaltender. The special includes interviews with Brodeur's father, Dennis Brodeur Sr., childhood friends and teammates and even lets viewers get a glimpse of Brodeur's childhood bedroom.

Producers Sam Cicirello, Mark Jacobson, Marc Macdonald, Tom Masters and John Shannon will be up against three other broadcasts.

The NHL Network's competition in the category features TSN's pre-game coverage of the 2008 Grey Cup, CBC's "Countdown to Beijing," and CBC's coverage of Hockey Day in Canada 2009.

The 24th Annual Gemini Awards will be broadcast live Nov. 14, 2009 from Calgary.
