The Dallas Stars on Thursday signed defenseman Stephane Robidas to a four-year contract extension worth $13.2 million. The extension puts Robidas under contract with the Stars through the 2013-14 season.

"We are very happy to sign Stephane to this contract extension," General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "He has been a rock for this team on the blue line and is a key member of our leadership group. Stephane is a consummate professional who gives us everything he has each night."

Robidas, 32, set career-highs in assists (23) and tied his career-high for points (26) with the Stars in 2008-09. He led the team in hits (221), ranking 12th in the NHL, and was tops on the team in ice time with an average of 24:32 per game.

The native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, has played in 394 games with the Stars, scoring 21 goals and 79 assists for 100 points. For his career, which includes parts of three seasons with Montreal and one with Chicago, he has 30 goals and 105 assists for 135 points with 418 penalty minutes in 561 games.
Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
