FLORIDA PANTHERS
2008-09 SEASON STATS

Category Rank (Conference)
2008-09 Points 93
(9TH eAst/14TH NHL)
Change from 2007-08 +8
Home Points 51
(10th eAst/19th NHL)
Away Points 42
(7tH eAst/13tH NHL)
Advantage Margin            -3
The Panthers tied Boston and Minnesota for the fewest combined power plays in their 82 regular-season games (619). Florida received a League-low 150 advantages at home, but allowed just 146.

Even-Strength Goals Margin        +12

Florida got a big boost from rookie Michael Frolik, who scored 21 goals in his first NHL season despite scoring just once on the power play -- the rest came at even strength.

Special Teams Goal Margin        -4
The Panthers hurt themselves by being unable to score power-play goals at home -- their total of 23 tied Columbus for the fewest in the NHL.

Goals by defensemen            49
The Panthers will miss the 15 goals Jay Bouwmeester took to Calgary via a draft day trade. But they still have Bryan McCabe, who matched Bouwmeester's total and gives Florida a big gun from the point on the power play.

Overtime Record
Total: 7-3-8 (OT: 4-3, SO: 3-8)

The Panthers' inability to win shootouts cost them a playoff berth. Most of the problems came at home, where they were just 1-5 -- largely because their goaltenders stopped just seven of 16 attempts.

Times Scored First
39 (Record: 24-11-4)

The Panthers were two different teams when it came to scoring first. At home, they opened the scoring 24 times and were 16-5-3; on the road, they got the game's first goal only 15 times and were just 8-6-1.

Best 08-09 Number             10-3-1
Florida's record in games played on Tuesdays. It was the Panthers' best record on any day of the week and the best winning percentage on Tuesdays (.714) by any team in the Eastern Conference.

Worst 08-09 Number          34.7
Shots on goal allowed per game by the Panthers, the highest total in the NHL. It's the sixth time in the last seven seasons that Florida has been among the top two teams in most shots allowed.

Scheduling
The Panthers open their season with two games against Chicago in Helsinki, Finland, and then play at Carolina before playing their first home game. The schedule contains no homestand or road trip longer than four games, and the Panthers play four of their last five at home (the other game is at Tampa Bay).

Quote of the Day

It's such a privilege to be one of these 80 great players to do this milestone, and it doesn't get better than this doing it where I started. It means a lot to me. A big thanks goes to all the players tonight who helped me to achieve that and also all the players through my career.
