Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has invited forward Petr Sykora to training camp on a pro tryout. He is scheduled to join the team later this week.
Sykora, 32 (11/19/76), completed his 14th NHL season in 2008-09, ranked fourth on the Pittsburgh Penguins in scoring posting 46 points (25-21=46) in 76 games. He led the club and ranked tied for third in the NHL with 10 game-winning goals. Sykora netted his 300th NHL goal April 7 in Tampa Bay. He added one assist in seven playoff games as the Penguins claimed the Stanley Cup. Sykora has reached five Stanley Cup finals, including two titles.
Just the feel for the direction they were headed and what they're trying to do, it just felt that this is a really good thing for this organization. They've got the pieces. We can put something together and go on a run or two and be together for a while, and I'm really excited about that opportunity. The team we have here has an opportunity to win, and that's the most attractive thing.
