Three-time Stanley Cup winner Mike Keane hasn't played in the NHL since 2003-04, but he has no intention of hanging up his skates. The Manitoba Moose announced Wednesday that they've re-signed Keane to an American Hockey League contract. The 42-year-old will be playing his 22nd season in professional hockey and his fifth as captain of the Moose, the Vancouver Canucks' top farm club.

Keane appeared in 74 games for Manitoba in 2008-08, scoring 8 goals and 20 assists for 28 points -- his highest point total since the 1999-2000 season, when he had 34 points for the Dallas Stars. In 22 playoff games last season, Keane scored 4 goals and added 7 assists for 11 points as Manitoba made it to the Calder Cup Finals before losing to Hershey. He was named the winner of the team's Never Quits Hardest Working Player award for the second consecutive season.

During his four seasons with Manitoba, Keane has 27 goals and 56 assists for 83 points and 195 penalty minutes in 290 games. In 53 playoff games, he has 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 points and 23 PIM. In 2006-07, he won the AHL's Fred T. Hunt Award for sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to the game of hockey. Keane was also selected as the captain of the Canadian team at the 2007 AHL All-Star Game in Toronto.

Keane broke into the NHL with Montreal in 1988-89 and played 1,161 games with the Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Stars, St. Louis Blues and the Canucks. He scored 168 goals and added 302 assists for 470 points with 881 PIM. He was a member of Cup-winning teams with Montreal in 1993, Colorado in 1996 and Dallas in 1999, and has 34 goals and 74 points in 220 NHL playoff games.

Keane played his 1,500th career hockey game as a professional this past season on Feb. 3 against Lake Erie.
