PHOENIX - A bankruptcy judge has moved the local auction of the Phoenix Coyotes from Wednesday to Sept. 10.

"We're pleased the court and all parties are in agreement to give every opportunity for bids to keep the team in Glendale," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly after Monday's proceedings. "The extra month will help."

Judge Redfield T. Baum also is considering combining the auction for local bidders with offers to move the team out of town. Baum said in court Monday he intends to rule later this week on whether to combine the local and out-of-town bids or keep them separate.

Currently, there is one local offer - a $148 million bid by a group headed by Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of baseball's Chicago White Sox and the NBA's Chicago Bulls. Another local offer is being prepared by Ice Edge Holdings. Extending the decision date to September will allow those bidders to clear up any contingencies, Daly noted.

Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie has offered $212.5 million to move the team to Hamilton, Ont. Last week, the NHL's Board of Governors unanimously rejected Balsillie's application to buy the Coyotes.

Baum's decision to delay any decision until Sept. 10 prompted the League to inform the court "in no uncertain terms that this team couldn't be scheduled from any location outside of Glendale" for the 2009-2010 season, said Daly.

Material from wire services and team media was used in this report.
Quote of the Day

I've got a lot of experience and there's a lot of young guys. It's even making me excited a little more. It's kind of a new life. At my age, I feel like I know a lot of things what to do, but I just cannot do it anymore. It's a lot easier to tell them what to do because they've still got the legs and hands to do it. I just know things, but I cannot do them anymore.
