July 7, 1969: Joe Sakic is born in Burnaby, British Columbia to Croatian immigrants.

December 30, 1986: As a member of the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL, survives a bus crash that kills four of his teammates.

June 13, 1987: Selected in the first round, No. 15, by the Quebec Nordiques in the Entry Draft.

October 6, 1988: Makes his NHL debut in Quebec's 5-2 victory against the Hartford Whalers at the Civic Center. Sakic assists on a goal by Anton Stastny for his first career point.

October 8, 1988:
Scored his first career goal against Sean Burke in a 5-3 loss against the New Jersey Devils at Le Colisee.

October 5, 1989:
Played his first game wearing No. 19 in a 4-3 loss against the Buffalo Sabres at Memorial Auditorium. Sakic previously wore No. 88 as a rookie.

March 31, 1990:
Records his first career 100-point season with a goal during Quebec's 3-2 loss against Hartford.

1990-91 season: Shared captaincy of Quebec Nordiques with Steven Finn.

March 19, 1991: Records his second career 100-point season with a goal during Quebec's 7-6 loss against Edmonton.

April 14, 1992:
Scores a career-high four goals during a 7-3 victory against the Buffalo Sabres at Le Colisee.

1992-93 season: Became full-time captain of Quebec Nordiques.

April 8, 1993: Records his third career 100-point season with an assist in Quebec's 6-2 loss at Boston.

May 6, 1995: Scores his first career playoff hat trick to lead the Quebec Nordiques to a 5-4 victory against the New York Rangers at Le Colisee.

March 17, 1996: Records his fourth career 100-point season with an assist during Colorado's 8-1 win against Edmonton.

April 7, 1996: Records his first career 50-goal season during a 4-1 win for Colorado at Dallas.

April 25, 1996:
Scores his second career playoff hat trick, and his first postseason overtime goal, to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-4 victory against the Vancouver Canucks at McNichols Sports Arena.

June 10, 1996: Wins his first Stanley Cup with Colorado, defeating the Florida Panthers, and earns the Conn Smythe Trophy.

October 15, 1996:
Records career-highs of five assists and six points to lead Colorado to a 7-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at McNichols Sports Arena.

March 14, 1997: Scores his first hat trick for the Colorado Avalanche in a 6-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at McNichols Arena.

August 6, 1997:
Signed a three-year, $21 million offer sheet with the New York Rangers as a restricted free agent. The offer was matched by Colorado.

December 27, 1999: Becomes the 56th player in NHL history to record 1,000 career points with an assist during a 5-1 victory against St. Louis.

February 29, 2000:
Began a career-high 14-game point streak, recording 16 goals and 11 assists. The streak ended on April 2.

March 2, 2000: Began a career-high 7-game goal streak, recording 11 goals. The streak ended on March 18.

March 18, 2001: Records his fifth career 100-point season with a goal during Colorado's 4-3 win against Minnesota.

April 4, 2001:
Records his second career 50-goal season during a 1-1 tie against Anaheim at Colorado.

May 12, 2001: Scored a playoff penalty shot goal against goaltender Roman Turek during Colorado's 4-1 victory against St. Louis.

June 9, 2001: Wins his second Stanley Cup with Colorado, defeating the New Jersey Devils.

Summer 2001: Sakic wins the Hart Trophy, Lady Byng Trophy, and the Lester B. Pearson Award, and is named to the NHL's First All-Star Team.

February 24, 2002: Helps Canada win the Olympic gold medal and is named Tournament MVP.

Summer 2002: Named to NHL's First All-Star Team.

December 11, 2002: Becomes the 31st player in NHL history to score 500 career goals during Colorado's 3-1 loss at Vancouver.

February 8, 2004: Scores three goals at the All-Star Game in St. Paul, Minn. and is named MVP.

Named to NHL's First All-Star Team

April 24, 2006: Set an NHL playoff record by scoring his seventh career overtime goal in a 5-4 victory at Dallas in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal, passing Maurice Richard.

October 25, 2006: Becomes the 11th player in NHL history to record 1,500 career points during Colorado's 5-3 loss against the Washington Capitals at Pepsi Center.

January 1, 2007:
Recorded three assists in a 5-3 victory against the Nashville Predators to pass Paul Coffey for tenth place on the NHL's all-time scoring list with 1,533 points.

January 24, 2007: Records four assists at the All-Star Game in Dallas.

February 15, 2007:
Becomes the 17th player in NHL history to score 600 career goals in Colorado’s 7-5 victory against the Calgary Flames at Pengrowth Saddledome.

March 29, 2007: Recorded an assist for his 1,580th career point to move past Ray Bourque for ninth place on the NHL's all-time scoring list during Colorado's 4-3 victory against the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena.

April 8, 2007: Records his sixth career 100-point season with a goal in Colorado's 6-3 win against Calgary.

October 7, 2007: Scored a goal and an assist to move past Phil Esposito into eighth place on the NHL's career points list with 1,591 during Colorado's 6-2 victory against San Jose at Pepsi Center.

October 26, 2007: Scored a goal and an assist in Colorado's 3-2 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames at Pengrowth Saddledome, becoming the eighth player in NHL history to record 1,600 career points.

March 22, 2008: Becomes the 11th player in NHL history to record 1,000 career assists during Colorado's 7-5 loss against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

October 23, 2008:
Scores the 625th and final regular season goal of his career during a 4-1 victory against the Edmonton Oilers at Pepsi Center. Sakic scored against goaltender Mathieu Garon at 3:32 of the third period with assists from Darcy Tucker and Wojtek Wolski.

November 2, 2008: Records the 1,641st and final regular season point of his career with an assist during a 5-3 loss against the San Jose Sharks at Pepsi Center.

November 28, 2008:
Appears in the 1,378th and final regular season game of his career, a 2-1 loss against the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena.

On July 9, 2009: Announces his retirement from the NHL. In 1,378 career games, Sakic scored 625 goals and 1,016 assists for 1,641 points, finishing eighth on the NHL's all-time scoring list.
