TORONTO - New York Rangers winger Nikolai Zherdev and forward Jiri Hudler of the Detroit Red Wings are among 20 players who have elected salary arbitration, the NHL Players' Association announced Sunday night.
Zherdev, who tied former Rangers forward Scott Gomez for a team-high 58 points (23 goals, 35 assists), is looking for a raise on the US$3.25 million salary he made last season.
Hudler had 57 point last season (23 goals, 34 assists) with four goals eight assists coming in the post-season, including three assists in Detroit's Stanley Cup final series with Pittsburgh. Hudler made $1.15 million last season.
Other players filing for salary arbitration include: Anaheim Ducks D James Wisniewski; Atlanta Thrashers F Colby Armstrong; Boston Bruins F Matt Hunwick; Buffalo Sabres LW Clarke MacArthur; Carolina Hurricanes F Tuomo Ruutu; Chicago Blackhawks D Aaron Johnson; Columbus Blue Jackets D Marc Methot; Edmonton Oilers D Denis Grebeshkov; Minnesota Wild C Kyle Brodziak; Montreal Canadiens C Tomas Plekanec; New Jersey Devils F Travis Zajac; N.Y. Islanders C Nate Thompson; N.Y. Rangers RW Ryan Callahan; Phoenix Coyotes F Nigel Dawes and F Daniel Winnik; Tampa Bay Lightning D Matt Smaby; Vancouver Canucks F Kyle Wellwood; and Washington Capitals D Milan Jurcina.
Arbitration hearings will be held in Toronto from July 20 to Aug. 4.
