Martin Havlat, Chicago's leading scorer in 2008-09, is joining the Minnesota Wild. GM Chuck Fletcher confirmed Wednesday night that Havlat and the team have agreed to a six-year contract.

"We are excited to add the speed and scoring of Martin Havlat to our lineup," Fletcher said. "He is a terrific two-way player."

TSN is reporting that the contract is worth $30 million, an average of $5 million per season.

In a career-best 81 games with the Blackhawks this past season, Havlat scored 29 goals and added 48 assists for 77 points. But the 28-year-old, selected No. 26 by the Ottawa Senators in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, figured to be on the move after Chicago signed Marian Hossa to a 12-year contract shortly after free agency opened on Wednesday -- and the Wild needed offense after losing Marian Gaborik, the leading scorer in franchise history, when he signed with the New York Rangers Wednesday evening.

The native of the Czech Republic has 169 goals and 227 assists for 396 points in 470 career regular-season games with the Senators and Blackhawks. He spent the last three seasons with the Hawks, but 2008-09 was the first time since 2003-04 that Havlat was able to play more than 65 games. He played just 91 of a possible 164 games in his first two seasons in Chicago after joining the Hawks in 2006.
