The Montreal Canadiens extended qualifying offers to six players, including Christopher Higgins and Tomas Plekanec.
In so doing, the Canadiens will have the option of matching an potential offer these players could get as of July 1 as restricted free agents if they do not re-sign with Montreal before then.
Four other players the team extended offers to were center Kyle Chipchura and wingers Guillaume Latendresse, Matt D'Agostini and Greg Stewart.
Chipchura and Stewart played most of the season with the Hamilton Bulldogs in American Hockey League.
