The St. Louis Blues will have one of their top veteran forwards back for next season.

The club announced Friday that 37-year-old Keith Tkachuk has signed a new one-year deal. Tkachuk had 25 goals and 49 points in 79 games for the Blues in 2008-09.

"Keith is a veteran leader who played a key role with our club's success this past season," team president John Davidson said. "He and his wife Chantal are first-class people and have been tremendous to the St. Louis Blues organization and the St. Louis community."

Tkachuk reached the 20-goal plateau for the 15th time in 17 NHL seasons. A Massachusetts native, Tkachuk became just the seventh U.S.-born player to reach the 1,000-point milestone when he scored a power-play goal Nov. 30, 2008 at Atlanta. He also became the fourth NHL player with 1,000 points and 2,000 penalty minutes.

Tkachuk has played in 476 games with the Blues over eight seasons, recording 395 points (195 goals, 200 assists) and 621 penalty minutes. On the Blues' all-time lists, he ranks eighth in points (395), sixth in goals (195), seventh in game-winning goals (28) and fourth in power-play goals (91).

He twice has been named to the NHL Second All-Star Team (1995, '98) and played in five All-Star Games five times (1997, '98, '99, '04 and '09).  Tkachuk was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round (No. 19) of the 1990 Entry Draft.
