Red Wings shorthanded for Game 4

Sunday, 05.24.2009 / 3:13 PM / Conference Finals: Detroit vs. Chicago

By Brian Compton - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

CHICAGO -- Already without Hart Trophy candidate Pavel Datsyuk, the Detroit Red Wings are now forced to play Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals without six-time Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom.

The Wings' No. 1 defenseman will not play against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon due to a lower-body injury. Lidstrom practiced with the team on Saturday and showed no signs of being hurt. It is not known when the injury occurred.

Chris Chelios, 47, took Lidstrom's spot in Detroit's lineup.

Also scratched for the Red Wings were forwards Pavel Datsyuk and Kris Draper.

Martin Havlat returned to the Chicago lineup after absorbing a crushing hit from Niklas Kronwall in Game 3. Cristobal Huet was in goal for the Hawks in place of the injured Nikolai Khabibulin.
Quote of the Day

He's, believe it or not, actually one of my favorite guys, and I've ended up trading him twice. I appreciate what he's done. He was one year away from being an unrestricted free agent, and I felt with this opportunity, that it was a chance that we were able to get somebody for him in Nick Bonino and Adam Clendening.
