Washington at NY Rangers - Game 4
The Rangers were the top penalty-killing team in the NHL during the regular season, and their proficiency on the PK was evident in Game 4. After Sean Avery was hit with a roughing penalty with 9:39 remaining in regulation, the Capitals, down 2-1, found themselves with a golden opportunity to tie the game.
At 45 seconds in Alex Ovechkin fired a shot that sailed wide. Sergei Fedorov collected the rebound and swung the puck to Nicklas Backstrom. He faked a shot, then fed Ovechkin, who ripped a shot past Henrik Lundqvist that clanged off the crossbar.
There was still a minute remaining on the power play, but the Caps wouldn't have a better scoring chance.
FINAL SCORE: Rangers 2, Capitals 1
Boston at Montreal - Game 4
The Bell Centre crowd was rocking after Andrei Kostitsyn gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead just 39 seconds in, but after Michael Ryder tied the game late in the first period, Ryder set up David Krejci who beat Montreal netminder Carey Price and gave the Bruins the lead less than two minutes later.
The bang-bang nature of the Boston comeback would be enough to knock the crowd out of the game and the Habs out of the postseason. Phil Kessel would score later in the second and Michael Ryder potted his second of the night seconds later. But it was Krejci's tally that had turned the tide for good at the end of the opening period, sending the Canadiens home for the year and the top-seeded Bruins to the second round for the first time in 10 years.
FINAL SCORE: Bruins 4, Canadiens 1
Chicago at Calgary - Game 4
With both teams seemingly on their heels for much of the third period, Eric Nystrom finally broke the ice by putting a rebound between Nikolai Khabibulin's legs to put the Flames in front for good. Nystrom's tally re-ignited the crowd and lifted Calgary to an eventual 6-4 win, evening the series at two games each.
FINAL SCORE: Flames 6, Blackhawks 4
