USA Hockey has named Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon as an assistant coach for the 2009 U.S. Men's National Team, which will compete in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship, April 24-May 10, in Berne and Zurich-Kloten, Switzerland.

"We're thrilled to have Scott join Ron Wilson in guiding our men's national team," said Brian Burke, general manager of the 2009 U.S. Men's National Team. "While this will be his first experience as a coach on the international scene, he's a proven winner and no doubt one of the bright young coaches in the game today."

Gordon—in his first season with the Islanders—was the AHL Coach of the Year in 2007-08.

A native of Easton, Massachusetts, Gordon played goaltender for the Boston College Eagles from 1982-86 and posted a career mark of 64-35-3. He backstopped BC to an NCAA Frozen Four appearance in 1985 and was named a Hockey East First-Team All-Star in 1986. He helped Boston College finish in first place in the ECAC East Region in 1983-84 before leading it to first place finishes in Hockey East in 1984-85 and 1985-86.
