2009 MASTERTON TROPHY NOMINEES BY DIVISION:
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is in Las Vegas Monday for a press conference with city officials to promote the NHL Awards show, scheduled to take place in Las Vegas for the first time this year.
The NHL Awards will take place at the Pearl Concert Theater in the Palms Hotel on June 18. The show will feature the announcement of the League’s top regular-season performers in a host of categories, including most valuable player (Hart Trophy), outstanding goaltender (Vezina Trophy), outstanding defenseman (Norris Trophy) and outstanding rookie (Calder Trophy).
Tickets to the 2009 NHL Awards, which are still
available, will grant fans unprecedented access, including a seat alongside the NHL's best players, celebrities and other NHL VIPs in the amazing Pearl Concert Theater, plus admittance to the NHL's official after-party held at Rain night club.
Also, to be announced at a later date, the NHL will identify the musical entertainment and hosts for this year's event.
With that in mind, the NHL.com staff decided it would be interesting to look at the field for the various major awards as the season enters its final week.
Monday, Dan Rosen picks an
All-Russian field to be in contention for the Hart Trophy, while Adam Kimelman does some digging to find a
tight three-way race for the Selke Trophy.
Tuesday, Shawn P. Roarke will present the man that may just well put
an end to Nicklas Lidstrom's reign with the Norris Trophy and John McGourty looks at a
crowded field for the Jack Adams Award.
Finally, on Wednesday, Mike Morreale gives his
endorsement to Steve Mason's campaign for the Calder and Rocky Bonanno presents the
first all-European field for the Vezina Trophy.
Remember, though, that these stories are just speculation as the regular season draws to a close. The official list of the three finalists for each award will be announced later this month.
