Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson will be named the head coach of the 2010 U.S. Olympic team, ESPN.com and TSN.ca are reporting.
USA Hockey is planning a teleconference with Monday at 10:45 a.m. ET regarding the naming of a head coach. They also plan to exclusively unveil the coach at 9 a.m. on USAHockey.com
Wilson was always in the running for the job, but he became the odds-on favorite as soon as Brian Burke took over the GM's seat in Toronto earlier this season. Burke is General Manager of the U.S. Olympic team.
Wilson's experience with USA Hockey is well documented. He led the Americans to a gold medal in the inaugural World Cup of Hockey in 1996 and then coached Team USA at the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano.
He also coached the U.S. entry into the 1994 and 1996 IIHF World Championships as well as the World Cup of Hockey in 2004, the last time it was played.
