Fans' Choice Goal of the Season

Tuesday, 04.07.2009 / 11:20 AM / NHL Insider

By Brad Holland - NHL.com Staff Writer

Alex Ovechkin, Blake Wheeler, T.J. Oshie, Niklas Hagman and Johan Franzen have combined to score 143 goals this season. But, one of those goals will stand out among the rest.

That goal, decided by your votes, will be the Fans' Choice Goal of the Season. So get ready to cast your ballots.

Goal scoring is a funny art. There are the masters -- and Ovechkin definitely tops that list -- and there are mere mortals.

But every so often, one of the "worker bees" pulls a rabbit out of his hat, and captures the imagination of 20,000 strong in-arena -- and a hockey community at large -- by doing something nobody could've predicted.

Well, we have masters -- Ovechkin and Franzen -- on the Fans' Choice Goal of the Season list and we have a "worker bee" in Hagman. Plus, we have two up-and-comers in Oshie and Wheeler.

One of these five men will take away the 2009 Fans' Choice Goal of the Season.

So, watch the videos and then cast your ballot -- as many times as you like -- in the poll at the top of the page to help push your favorite goal over the top.

We'll tabulate the votes throughout the week and Friday we will announce the Fans' Choice Goal of the Season.

Quote of the Day

I don't have a crystal ball. Predicting is a real complicated thing. If we stay healthy, have enough depth and get the good goaltending we think we're going to have, you can go all the way. But a lot of things have to happen. There's going to be a lot of teams that think the same thing. Everyone made deals. We're all are optimistic about where we'll end up.
