That small school from Minnesota is ready for the big stage.

Bemidji State University made history in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Sunday, beating Cornell University 4-1 to become the first team outside the "Big Four" conferences to reach the Frozen Four. The No. 4 Beavers had already ended Notre Dame's tournament with a 5-1 win Saturday night, just after Cornell scored three straight goals to earn a last-minute 3-2 decision over Northeastern courtesy of Evan Barlow's winning tally.

Tyler Scofield had two goals and an assist and Matt Dalton made 25 saves for the Beavers (20-15-1), who will face fellow fourth seed Miami of Ohio in the national semifinals on April 9 at the Verizon Center in Washington. Boston University, which eliminated the University of New Hampshire earlier Sunday, will play Vermont in the other semifinal.

The Beavers are the first team from College Hockey America to earn a Frozen Four berth. Scofield, the regional tournament MVP, scored early in the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Matt Francis and Ryan Adams also scored, and Scofield had an empty-net goal.

Sean Collins scored for Cornell (22-10-4).

"It's more than the coaches, it's more than the players," BSU coach Tom Serratore said. "This is for the alumni, the region and the state of Minnesota. We get to represent the state of Minnesota at the Frozen Four and we're very proud of that. You never know if this is going to happen again, so it's good for college hockey."

Quote of the Day

I think I'm lucky to be here and you definitely don't take very many things for granted, if you take anything for granted. I definitely put my family and my wife and my close family in perspective, that they're the most important thing in the world. I want to do whatever I can to play hockey, but like I said, under the right circumstances.
