RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Justin Williams on injured reserve with a broken hand.

The injury was another recent setback for one of the most durable players on the Hurricanes' roster.

Williams broke his hand when he was hit by teammate Anton Babchuk's shot during the first period of Sunday's win at Buffalo.

Williams sat out the first two months of the season with a torn Achilles' tendon. He missed 43 games last season after having knee surgery, and that injury ended a string of 205 consecutive games played since March 2004 - the fourth-longest streak in franchise history.

The former first-round draft pick has three goals and seven assists in 32 games.

The Hurricanes recalled defenseman Tim Conboy from Albany (AHL).
